Crystal of the Month: Black Tourmaline!

Fall is officially here! Cool breezes, hot cider and shorter days await us. As the heat of the summer winds down, it’s time to prepare for the cold, dark months to come. Many in our community choose to focus on protection at this time. That’s why the stone of the month for October is Black Tourmaline!

Raw Black Tourmaline

An earth element stone focused on the root chakra, black tourmaline is our go-to stone here when combating negativity. This stone absorbs negativity from within and without. This is what makes black tourmaline such an effective stone for purification and protection.

These crystals are ideal for anyone working in challenging environments or circumstances. If you find yourself in constant contact with ‘bad vibes’, this would be a great stone to add to your daily collection. The main idea to visualize when meditating with black tourmaline would be overarching harmony in all aspect of life, but especially the trying ones.

Black Tourmaline Bracelets

Keep some black tourmaline in your purse, pocket, wallet, etc. to keep your own negativity at bay as well! This is a wonderful stone for those who suffer from anxiety and anger. To enhance your black tourmaline properties, pair it with other black stones such as jet or obsidian. And don’t forget! Mystic Valley has black tourmaline that was charged during the solar eclipse! As the leaves turn beautiful shades of reds, yellows and browns, as the cool autumn breeze shakes them from their trees, we know we are getting closer to one of the most exciting holidays of the year: Halloween! Halloween, as we celebrate it today in the US, is an amazing combination of practices and customs from a variety of different cultures. The origins of our modern holiday cannot be traced back to just one particular source, but most historians agree that we have the Irish to thank for the majority of it.

Samhain Book

The most ancient name for this holiday is Samhain (pronounced ‘sow-win’) was celebrated for centuries by the Celts as one of four Fire Festivals. It was seen as a day when the veil between our world and the word of the spirits was thin. The practice of wearing costumes began as an effort to trick the spirits into mistaking the humans for animals, or even fellow spirits themselves.

Today, Samhain/Halloween has become a permanent part of our secular culture, as well as maintaining its religious significance for others. It’s a great opportunity to do any protection magic you feel you may need. However you decide to celebrate, we hope you have a wonderful holiday!
